Interior Painting Cost in Los Angeles: 2026 Pricing Guide
October 17, 2026

What interior painting in LA really costs in 2026
Interior painting is one of the most quoted home improvement projects in Los Angeles — and one of the easiest to overpay for if you do not know the ranges. This guide gives you the realistic 2026 numbers.
Per-room pricing
For a standard LA home (8–10 ft ceilings, average room sizes):
- Single room (12x12 with 9 ft ceilings): 00–00
- Tiny studio bedroom: 50–50
- Master bedroom: 00–,000
- Living room / great room: 00–,400
- Kitchen: 00–,200
- Bathroom (full repaint): 50–00
- Hallway / stairway: 00–00
Prices include walls and ceiling, standard latex paint, and 1–2 coats over a properly primed surface.
Whole-house interior pricing
For a full interior repaint of a typical LA home:
- Apartment / condo (800–1,200 sqft): ,800–,500
- Single-family home (1,500–2,000 sqft): ,500–,500
- Single-family home (2,500–3,500 sqft): ,500–2,000
- Larger / multi-story (4,000+ sqft): 2,000–0,000+
These prices assume standard wall conditions, latex paint, and reasonable access. Homes with extensive drywall repair, high ceilings, or specialty finishes will be higher.
What affects the price
Surface condition
- Holes, dings, scuffs: Most crews include minor patching in their quote. Heavy drywall repair is usually an add-on (– per sqft of damaged area).
- Stains (water, smoke, marker): May need a stain-blocking primer. Adds ~/bin/bash.50–.50 per sqft.
- Peeling or flaking paint: Indicates an adhesion problem that needs to be addressed before repainting.
Ceiling height
Standard 8–9 ft ceilings are included. 10–12 ft ceilings add 10–25% to the labor. Vaulted or two-story foyers add significantly more.
Trim and doors
- Baseboards, crown, door frames, window sills: Usually priced per linear foot or per piece. – per linear foot is typical.
- Doors (each side): 0–20 per door.
- Windows (trim and frame): 0–0 per window.
Number of colors
One wall color and one trim color is standard. Each additional color adds setup, masking, and material cost — usually 00–00 per color.
Paint quality
Most LA painters use premium paints like Benjamin Moore Regal, Sherwin-Williams Duration, or equivalent. Those paints run 0–0 per gallon. Cheap paint costs 0–0 but does not cover, does not level, and does not last.
A good crew will not use cheap paint on your home. If the quote is much lower than the ranges above, ask what brand and line they are using.
Add-ons that are worth it
- Primer on bare drywall or major color changes. Skipping this is where most cost-cutting quotes go wrong.
- Caulking at trim and baseboards before painting. Makes the final result look finished instead of rushed.
- Drop cloths and proper masking. Protects furniture, floors, and fixtures.
- Final walk-through. A crew that walks the job with you before leaving is a crew that cares about the result.
Add-ons to question
- We do not include priming. This is a corner cut, not a savings.
- We spray everything. Spraying is fast but it does not produce a clean result on textured walls. Most interiors should be rolled.
- We can start without a written quote. Verbal quotes always drift upward.
Timeline for a full interior repaint
- Apartment / small home: 3–5 working days
- Average single-family home: 5–7 working days
- Larger or higher-finish home: 7–12 working days
The crew should never leave your home inaccessible for more than 24 hours at a stretch.
What to do first
